Hitherto is made by GrayBear Studio. This policy explains what happens to information in the Hitherto app for iPhone.
The short version
Hitherto does not collect your data. Your prayers, notes, journal entries and history are stored only on your iPhone. The app has no accounts and no servers, and we cannot see anything you write.
What stays on your device
The app stores the following in its private storage on your iPhone:
- your prayers and their details
- the dates you prayed
- notes and journal entries
- answered-prayer entries
- your practice history and streak
- your first name, if you choose to enter one
- your reminder time and appearance setting
This information is included in your device's own backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you use them. Those backups are controlled by you and Apple.
What we collect
Nothing. Hitherto contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting software. It does not send your content to us or to anyone else.
Purchases
Hitherto Premium subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details. The app asks Apple's StoreKit on your iPhone whether your purchase is active, so it can turn Premium features on. Apple's handling of purchases is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Ratings
The app may occasionally show Apple's standard "rate this app" prompt. It is provided by Apple, and we receive only the public ratings and reviews that appear on the App Store.
Notifications
Daily reminders and the reminder before a free trial ends are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone. They are not sent from a server. You can turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings.
Sharing and export
If you choose to share something or export your record, the text goes only where you send it, using the iOS share sheet.
Links
Links in the app (for example to this page or to support) open in your web browser. Our website is covered by its own privacy notice.
Deleting your data
Use Settings > Delete everything inside the app, or delete the app. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
Children
Hitherto is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
